With the development of the public welfare industry in China, a parallel trend was observed in information platforms and the media – hard copy publications became less popular with an obvious shift towards electronic media. Although there were various public interest electronic media platforms available, however, few were catered for the public welfare industry. Despite that, there was no shortage of articles, commentaries, online discussions and information related to public welfare that needed to be consolidated on a platform which laid the path for the start of this project.

In 2016, the annual China Public Welfare Commentary Award was set up with a total of ten awards to be given out. Distinguished experts in the industry were invited to judge on the most value-added online articles or commentaries written in a year. The award aims to gather the best minds of the industry on a single platform to encourage constructive and positive dialogue for the development of the industry. The award is a collaboration between the Beijing Yifang Foundation and NGOCN’s online weekly charity publication. The foundation also sponsors NGOCN’s online weekly charity publication and Gongzhong platform.
