• Community Home Care Industry Development

Partner Organization: Beijing City Shijingshan District Senior Citizen Community Service Centre
Project Duration: Dec 2014 – Nov 2015
Project Status: Completed
What started out as a vision for all senior citizens to live comfortably in their own home, became reality after a collaboration with the Beijing City Shijingshan District Senior Citizen Community Service Centre. Through consultation with professional social workers, psychologists, nurses and volunteer groups, three services were offered to achieve the dream: (1) a community aid platform, (2) professional care services and (3) poverty alleviation.
This programme addresses the problem of a rapidly ageing population in China. At present, individuals aged above 60 total 185 million or 13.7% of the population and this number is set to grow to 25% by 2030. Between the 3 main models of support - community, home and organization – research shows that 96-97% of senior citizens will opt for community home care. While nursing homes have been studied in detail over the years, this is not the case for community homes. The programme aims to study the needs of the community pension sector, promote the growth and development of community home care organizations and educate the government and media in this respect, ultimately serving the needs to the ageing population in China.
