• Research on China’s Elderly Home Care Industry Talent Development Model

Partner Organization: Beijing CAJ Senior Care Services

Project Duration: Jul 2017 – Dec 2020

Project Status: Going on

The ageing population issue in China is worrisome on several levels. Because of the rapidly growing ageing population, there is insufficient manpower with the relevant skills to provide the care needed by the elderly. It is estimated that there is a shortage of one million of these professionals in China. Furthermore, this profession is not a popular career choice amongst the working population, intensifying the shortage. As part of the efforts to tackle this issue, the Beijing CAJ Senior Care Services, the BN Vocational School and the Beijing Yifang Foundation teamed up to explore and develop a teaching curriculum based on the actual needs of the elderly welfare industry, to equip individuals with the skills required for elderly home care. Based on the research outcomes from the Beijing CAJ Senior Care Services, the curriculum was rolled out at the BN Vocational School. The project hopes to attract more qualified individuals to the industry with this new programme that is innovative, practical and addresses the unique needs of the elderly in China.
