According to estimates from the National Committee on Aging, China will become the country with the largest market potential for the aging industry by 2050. China’s elderly population (60 years and above) is expected to double to 400 million around 2033 and will make up one-third of the country’s population by 2050. Anticipating the sudden and explosive growth, there was an urgent need to establish evaluation standards for elderly-friendly features in building and interior design, furniture and fittings.

As this was a completely new initiative, the China Building Decoration Association took the lead in this project to drive the project in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The new evaluation standards resolved many challenges faced in the aging transformation process by improving efficiency, reducing costs and unnecessary wastage.
