Project Duration: Jul 2007 – Oct 2017

Project Status: Completed

The Beijing Normal University Zhenyu Education Fund was set up in 2006 by Dr Eric Xu Yong, with the goal of nurturing outstanding talent and revitalizing the education system in Henan province by promoting the teaching profession. Launching the “Rural Primary School Teacher Training Programme” not only benefitted many rural teachers in poverty-stricken areas but also showcased the capabilities of the university. Since then, the programme has been implemented in a new city every year, culminating in 2017 when past participants of the training were invited to Beijing to broaden their horizon and build upon what they had learnt. In ten years, the programme has trained more than 6,000 teachers and is recognized by the local education department for the positive ripple effects that it has generated throughout the province. The success of the programme has even prompted The Education Department of Henan Province to include it in the department’s annual focus of work, securing crucial government support and longevity of the programme.
